36I want to take notes while knitting

Jot notes, record design decisions, draw on the PDF, and pin reference images

The Smart Pattern Reader keeps your notes, design choices, and reference images right beside the PDF. No more flipping back to find a number you decided on weeks ago.

1
Notes section
Notes section in the sidebar showing tabs for PDF, Freehand, Public Notes, and Private Notes

Notes are organized into tabs: PDF notes for position-specific annotations, Freehand for drawing on the pattern, and Public/Private notes that sync with your Ravelry project. Tap "Add Pattern Note" to create a note card that stays with your pattern file.

2
PDF Notes
Pattern note card attached to the PDF with text content

PDF notes attach to a specific area on the page. Define a region, type your note, and it stays anchored to that spot. Perfect for errata, personal reminders, or annotating confusing sections.

3
Freehand drawing (Full mode)

Draw directly on the pattern with your finger or a stylus. Circle your size's repeat section, cross out completed rows, underline key numbers. The toolbar lets you pick colors and pen sizes. Freehand annotations are saved per page.

4
Public and Private notes

Public Notes are shared on your Ravelry project page — the right place for modifications or corrections that help the community. Private Notes are for your eyes only, perfect for gift measurements or personal reminders.

Design Choices
Design Choices section showing a 'size' choice set to 'small' with an Add Choice button

Design Choices captures each decision as a labeled pair — "size: 40 inch chest," "sleeves: three-quarter length." When the pattern says "work 12 (14, 16, 18, 20) stitches," glance here to confirm which number is yours.

Tip: Record your gauge swatch results here too — if you need to recalculate mid-project, the numbers are right there.

Pattern Snapshots (Full mode)
Pattern Snapshots section with saved chart region and pattern text snapshots

Crop and save regions from any PDF page as quick-reference cards pinned in the sidebar. Save the chart legend, the schematic, or the abbreviations list — no more jumping between pages.
