Make a colour theme of your own, from a photograph or from a few words, and share it in a gallery where other makers can use it. Twenty-two new home tiles say something about your own making rather than counting things. Row counters keep counting when the signal drops, and a pattern PDF can be sent straight into the app from anywhere.

Dye Your Own Theme

• Make a colour theme of your own instead of picking one of the forty. In Settings, Appearance
• Start from any theme you like and change what you want
• Or take the colours from a photograph: a skein, a garden, a wall you like
• Or describe the mood you are after in words, and let the app mix it
• A proper colour picker, and you can type a colour in if you have one written down
• The whole app wears your draft while you work, so you judge it where you will use it
• Nothing is saved until you say so, and leaving puts your old theme back

A Theme Gallery, So Themes Can Be Shared

• Themes other makers have published, alongside the app’s own forty. In Tools, Theme gallery
• Heart the ones you like, and use anyone’s theme as your own
• See how many people are using yours
• Your themes are shared when you save them, unless you untick the box
• Your name there is your Ravelry username, never your email address

Getting your things onto the phone used to mean three screens with almost the same name. There is one now, and you choose what comes down. The Smart Pattern Reader works a pattern from cast-on to bind-off and shows the designer’s own charts. Two more Feed layouts, and every language calls the stash a store of yarn.

One Offline Screen

• Three screens with almost the same name become one, in Tools and in Settings
• You choose what comes down, projects and stash included
• You choose about photos: none, the first one, or all of them
• A real progress bar that counts the steps, in your language
• Stopping a download keeps what had already come down
• A project you have not touched since last time costs nothing, so it is much quicker
• Each kind of thing lists what is on your phone, and when it came down
• Your PDF highlighting and markers come down with the project
• Bundles come down with their contents
• Your Ravelry profile is on the device, so opening without a connection no longer looks like being signed out

Smart Pattern Reader

• Auto-Setup works on your phone and tablet, not only in the browser

• The charts in your pattern are shown, in the pattern’s own colours with a key
• The row you are on is marked, the way a magnetic strip marks paper
• Every row carries its stitch count, whatever the cast-on
• Choosing your size: legible options, your answer in view, and you can change one

The Feed

Home Screen

• Customize Home Screen arranges the layout you are actually on
• One way to move each row: a handle where dragging works, arrows where it does not
• Quick Access tiles can be reordered, and a long press opens the screen from any layout
• Arranging your Quick Access tiles used to do nothing at all, however often you saved
• Messages and Forum can be hidden from the picture tiles
• On the basic layout the caption grows with the tile
• A tablet no longer adopts your phone’s home layout

Bigger Screens

• Discover and Tools use up to three columns on a large tablet, instead of two very wide ones
• On Tools, storage and diagnostics no longer sit ahead of your own profile

Photos

• Something to look at while a photo loads, and a proper mark when it is really gone
• A small preview arrives first and the sharper picture follows, so lists fill quickly
• A photo that arrived quickly could be hidden again for good, leaving a black card
• A photo that failed once was written off for a month with no way to try again

When Something Goes Wrong

• The three buttons on the crash screen do what they say
• Report Issue really sends the report, and tells you whether it went
• Try Again starts the screen over instead of putting the same broken thing back
• One bad entry no longer takes the whole app down
• One advert space per results screen, so a long browse no longer slows the app
• The results are one continuous run of tiles again
• Yarn search never showed an advert at all, and on a tablet it came out half size

Settings

• Switching a beta feature on now says where to find it. Fifteen features covered
• Your settings are kept for an account with no Ravelry connection
• A change made on one device reaches the others straight away
• Signing out can no longer overwrite your settings on your other devices

Your Language

• Every language calls the stash a store of yarn. French read “my treasure”, Spanish “a smugglers’ cache”
• Most languages were using two or three competing words at once
• One word per language now, checked against what knitters really write. 1,625 pieces of wording
• Spanish and Greek called Highlights hair highlights, and Swedish said a measuring device where it meant metres

Forums

• Tapping a forum with an unread reply opens at that post
• The forum card and rows say which topic is waiting, not only how many
• Starred topics past the first few could not be reached at all. That list scrolls now
• The reply button starts on Reply rather than Quote, on new installations. Nobody’s existing choice changes

Projects & Patterns

• A project can name a pattern that is not on Ravelry, for a test knit or an unpublished one
• Gauge: clearing a value sticks, a decimal can be typed, and gauge notes can be written down
• The Colour Swatcher waits until you ask, instead of working on every pattern you open

Apple TV

• The television speaks all 26 languages
• It draws the app’s own craft illustrations, in the app’s real theme colours
• The browse grid follows the photographs instead of boxing them in blurred bars
• The end of a collection stops and returns home instead of looping forever

Also Fixed

• Legacy View has a way to the calculators, Pattern Explorer, needles and insights
• The delete control on a downloaded data type answers every press, and says why when it cannot
• The knitting animation fits inside its card
• The Friends feed could get stuck flickering between “no activity” and an error
• An empty round button in the top-right corner of every detail screen is gone

See a pattern in your own yarn colours before you cast on. Put the tabs you use most at the front of every pattern and project. Lend out needles that came from Ravelry. Buttons read clearly in every theme, and the home screen looks the same on your phone, your tablet and in the browser.

Colour Swatcher (new, beta, off by default)

• Give each colour the pattern uses one of your yarns, or any colour from the wheel, and the designer’s photos appear in your colours
• Photograph a skein and the app takes the colour straight off it, so you can match yarn you are holding in the shop
• Shadows and stitch texture stay where they are, so cables and folds still read as knitting
• The app finds the pattern’s colours in the designer’s own notes, whether they are Colour A and B or MC and CC1
• It paints the garment and leaves the background, the model’s face and her hands alone
• It uses the designer’s photos, not other makers’ versions, so you compare against the original
• Your yarn, your stash and your own photos never leave Stash2Go
• Most popular patterns work. A cream jumper against a cream wall does not, and the app says so rather than guessing
• On a pattern’s Yarns tab and a project’s pattern tab. Turn it on in Settings, Assisted Features

Your Own Tab Order

• Drag the tabs on a pattern into the order you want: PDF first, then Projects, then Description
• Set it once and every pattern opens that way, with its own order for projects, yarns, stash, people and bundles
• No more opening the “more” menu for the tab you use every time
• Your order follows your account, so phone, tablet and browser agree

Needles & Hooks

• Lend out a needle that came from Ravelry. Only ones you had typed in yourself could be lent before
• Name the Ravelry user who has it, or type any name if she is not on Ravelry
• A lent needle shows on the badge, in its details and under the Loaned filter

Magazine

• The Magazine opens on a different article each time, with the ones you have not read first

Colours & Readability

• Buttons and links read clearly in every theme, light and dark. Some came out near black on a dark background
• Dark mode is gentler at night. Cards and corners no longer glare on a dark screen
• The craft drawings on the home tiles stay visible with the plainest surface style
• Picking a theme shows all ten of its colours, as you will really get them
• The arrow at the end of a row is one size and the theme’s own colour everywhere
• A new installation starts on Citrus Burst, Light style. If you have already chosen a theme, nothing changes
• In German the surface styles fit on the screen again

Home Screen

• Tiles look the same on every device and simply get bigger or smaller
• Phones keep three across. A tablet gets more tiles rather than bigger ones
• Turn your phone sideways and the captions stay short and fit on the tile

Photos

• Pattern and project photos from Ravelry are sharper. Many were shown far smaller than the picture Ravelry has

Stash

• The Stash Matchmaker counts the yarn you still have, not what you bought
• Yarn you marked “will trade or sell” is offered again. It is on your shelf until somebody takes it

Finding Patterns

• Search inside a pattern list and your results stay. They used to flip back to the full list
• In the browser, a pattern tile opens when you tap it

Your Language

• Buttons say the right thing in all 26 languages. The Norwegian button for writing a forum post read as a fence post
• Buttons are worded as instructions, so they read like the app is asking you to do something

Removing Ads

• On a tablet the Premium page showed no way to buy anything at all
• On a phone the plans were folded shut, so you saw a price but no button. They are open now
• Settings opens with a shortcut to remove ads, instead of leaving it halfway down the Account list

Also Fixed

• A pattern source with no cover picture no longer shows a large empty block
• The picture across the top of a forum card follows the card’s rounded corners
• Legacy layout: a tidier forum list, and lists no longer settle on older results

Weaving projects get a proper home, in beta and off until you switch it on. One switch in Settings turns every assisted feature off completely, and each feature says exactly what it sends. The For You feed follows the crafts you actually work in. Row repeats can be set up the way patterns are really written.

Weaving (new, beta, off by default)

• Weaving projects have their own tab: loom setup, sett, draft, warp planning, yarn, finishing and final measurements
• The app works out the key numbers for you, and flags a figure that looks unlikely
• WIF import and export, draft and rigid-heddle tools, and metric yarn counts
• Every suggestion says where it came from and never overrides your own values
• Planned and finished measurements stay separate

Assisted Features

• Settings, Assisted Features begins with one switch that turns AI off completely, on every device you sign in on
• While it is off, those features stay visible but locked, so you can see what was stopped
• Switch it back on and your earlier choices come back exactly as they were
• Every feature says what it sends, and whether anything leaves your phone at all
• For pattern PDFs: only the passage you asked about, or the page text and a picture of a chart. The PDF itself is never sent

Feed

• The For You feed follows the crafts you work in. Crocheters used to get an almost entirely knitted feed
• With no projects yet you see everything, and you can still pick one craft to see on its own
• Marking an item “not interested” now counts against that craft too
• “Patterns Only” and “Projects Only” really filter now
• Each feed has its own settings, on one compact card instead of a list mixing all three
• The Friends feed has a switch for each kind of activity, saved with your account
• Notes on feed cards come out properly laid out, headings and lists and all
• The knitting animation holds still while the feed loads, and a normal load no longer warns you about your connection
• Patterns opened from the feed no longer appear without photos

Row Counters

• Setting up a row repeat works: the fields keep what you type, and the total row count stays right
• The counter says which pattern row you are on and which pass, before, during and after the repeat
• You choose how your pattern counts, “a total of 3 times” or “3 times more”, and see the result before saving
• A repeat can run open-ended (“until the sleeve measures 44 cm”) and be finished where you stand
• Settings lock once rows are worked, so a typo cannot re-interpret your knitting

Tools

• The pooling calculator shows every stitch count again, in order, with “Best first” as a switch
• Pooling results are named properly, worked out from your colour sequence and stitch count
• Your yarn and recent colours in this tool are saved with your account, not on one device

Stash

• The purchase date from Ravelry is shown on the stash detail page and in the list
• The project yarn picker searches your whole stash, and leaves out yarn you have used up or traded away

Appearance

• Enhanced Contrast genuinely raises contrast: darker text, stronger lines, clearer card edges, in every theme
• A short guided setup helps you choose a look, and switches light and dark as you go so you judge on the real screen
• A “Need help choosing a style?” box starts it again, and can be switched off

Forums

• Archived topics can be shown alongside the rest. Ravelry only shares ones you have read before
• A reply notification shows the topic title instead of just a number

Patterns & Library

• The classic pattern page shows your pattern PDFs as thumbnails, like the modern view
• The PDF tab on a library volume is always there, and PDFs from elsewhere open the same way

Two new things to try, both in beta and both off until you turn them on. Craft Value grades a pattern by how often it actually gets made rather than how often it gets favourited. The Magazine writes about patterns instead of listing them. Alongside those: a photo editor wherever you add a photo, pinch-to-zoom, and row counters that keep counting with no signal.

Craft Value (new, beta, switch on in Settings)

• A grade based on how often a pattern is really knitted or crocheted, not just saved for later
• A pattern with 20,000 favourites and almost no finished projects is a very different pattern from one with 800 and hundreds
• Each pattern is measured against patterns from its own year, so a new design is not judged against a decade of head start
• Knitting and crochet are counted on their own terms
• A Statistics tab shows the numbers behind a grade, and says when there is not enough to give one
• A “Top Craft Value” list you can narrow with the full pattern filters
• Designer pages show how a designer’s grades spread, a signature pattern and their strongest category
• Craft Value reads in all 25 app languages
• In beta while the grading settles. If a grade does not match your experience of a pattern, tell us

Magazine (beta, off by default)

• Articles have something to say about a pattern rather than repeating what is on Ravelry
• Every pattern, designer and yarn a story mentions is tappable right there in the text
• Hide an article, rate a story, sort by what has been read most, and browse a tag cloud
• New sources from designer blogs, so more of it comes from the people who design the patterns

Photos

• Adding a photo opens a full-screen editor everywhere: crop, rotate, flip, brightness, filters, drawing, text and stickers
• Pick several photos at once and edit each one before they upload
• Full-screen photos pinch to zoom, so you can look closely at a cable or a colour change

Row Counters

• Counters keep counting with no signal, and catch up when you are back online
• If the same counter moved on two devices, you are shown the clash and you decide
• A linked counter advances at the same moment in the app, on the widget and on your watch

Stash

• Each entry shows its length, how many skeins and its weight without opening it

Feed

• A quiet designer you have favourited reaches your feed instead of being crowded out

Getting Started

• First launch is a calm sequence of steps, one decision at a time

Settings & Account

• Your settings save the moment you change them, and come back on any device you sign in on
• Premium is recognised again when the shop has nothing to say about it

Fixes

• Project sorting matches the Ravelry website: in progress by when you started, finished by when you finished

Studio

Widgets (iOS)

• Widgets show exactly what the app shows, in the same order

Stash Matchmaker leaves beta, row counters keep in step across your devices quickly and reliably, and Apple Watch counting is steadier. Plus a redesigned counter setup, stash amounts in the units you prefer, freer cropping of camera photos, and fewer stray error messages.

Stash Matchmaker

• Out of beta. Picking a stash yarn no longer makes results flicker or reload
• Your chosen filters are kept when you switch yarns instead of resetting
• Fold the stash list away, and search inside the filters

Row Counters

• Counters keep in step quickly and reliably, with no more snapping back or flickering while you edit
• Apple Watch counting fixed: a very high count no longer brings it down, and the Watch keeps step with your phone
• Repeat counters wrap correctly on the Watch, matching the phone
• A repeat counter no longer doubles its maximum when you rename or edit it
• Restored the “Add to Home” pin on the Row Counter page
• Update every device you count on to the latest version so they share the same counts

Counter Setup

• The setup screen shows everything at once instead of hiding it in folded-up sections

• The cropping screen no longer runs under the title at the top or the buttons at the bottom

• Typing “30 m” is no longer quietly kept as “32.81 yd”
• Putting more of a yarn into projects than you have is shown clearly, and the buttons wait until it fits

Stash, the pattern PDF tab, and a steadier app. Every colorway shown separately, the PDF tab works for every kind of pattern, and a great many fixes to refreshing, widgets and storage.

Stash

• The stash picker shows every colorway separately instead of lumping a yarn together, with its colour family
• Queue Matcher only combines skeins that go together: same yarn line, different colorways are fine. No longer beta
• Stash amounts follow the units you prefer, with a toggle to flip them and a warning when you allocate more than you have
• Adding yarn to your stash now offers to add a photo

Pattern PDF Tab

• The PDF tab is always there: paid, free on Ravelry, free elsewhere, or any mix
• Free patterns preview instantly without adding to your Ravelry library
• A picker for a pattern that comes as several files, such as one per language
• A paid pattern shows its price and a “Buy on Ravelry” button that opens properly

A Steadier App

• Pulling down to refresh works again on the queue, on project details and elsewhere
• Widgets on iPhone bring in today’s information instead of yesterday’s
• In the browser the app no longer claims you are offline when you are not
• Low-storage mode keeps the app light on a phone that is running out of room

Smaller Improvements

• Sort works in progress and finished projects by when you last touched them
• An optional Recent Favorites widget, and a row of your latest favourites on Home

Sharing

• Tapping Share on iOS copies the project title, designer and Ravelry link, and tells you it has
• Sharing a project on Android includes the Ravelry link, not only the title

Forums

• Forum threads with patterns, projects and rows of photos in them scroll more smoothly
• Copy the text of a forum post with the copy icon
• A card of the forum topics people are talking about, refreshed through the day

Designer Detail

A big forum upgrade: knit-alongs marked as such, a gallery of every finished object in a topic, topics grouped together, notifications that name the topic, quick reply with quoting, and emoji that come out as emoji. Plus tables in project notes, faster loading, and screens that read aloud properly.

• KAL and MKAL tags, so a knit-along stands out from an ordinary thread in a forum list
• Finished object gallery: see every finished piece in a topic at once, instead of scrolling post by post
• Topics that belong together, such as the clues of a knit-along, are grouped so they are easier to follow
• Bookmark a single post, so you can come straight back to it
