35I want to annotate my pattern PDF

Place reading guides on your PDF and highlight chart cells with stitch markers

Place visual annotations directly on your PDF so you always know which row you're on. For chart-based patterns, stitch markers highlight individual cells to flag key stitches.

Reading guides
Reading Guides section in the Smart Pattern Reader sidebar

The Reading Guides section lists all annotations on the current PDF. A horizontal line across the page acts like a ruler — slide it down row by row as you work through written instructions.

Tip: Use a high-contrast color like red or yellow so your guide stands out at arm's length.

Place a reading guide
Multiple marker types placed on a PDF: horizontal line, circle, and rectangle highlight

Tap the marker tool in the toolbar, choose a type, then tap on the PDF to place it. Place several at once — a line under your current row, a circle around the stitch count for your size, a highlight over the chart key. Each marker is independent.

Marker types
Edit Reading Guide panel showing marker types: horizontal line, vertical line, arrow, circle, bracket, highlight rectangle, filled circle, line half

Choose from horizontal lines, vertical lines, arrows, circles, filled circles, brackets, and highlight rectangles. Each serves a different purpose — lines track rows, arrows point to key info, circles highlight numbers, rectangles shade entire regions.

Edit or delete
Edit Reading Guide panel for a pointer/arrow marker with color picker and size sliders

Long-press any marker to open the edit panel. Change its color, size, position, or switch to a different type entirely. All markers sync to your Ravelry account, so annotations you add on your iPad are waiting on your phone.

Stitch markers on charts (Full mode)
Stitch Markers section with colored dots on chart cells and a list of named marker groups

Stitch markers highlight individual cells inside your defined chart regions. Mark color-change columns, flag specific stitches, or color-code different stitch types. When row tracking is active, markers on the current row brighten so you can focus on just the stitches you need.

Tip: Create named marker groups with distinct colors to organize different stitch types.

Marker Mode
Marker Mode popup showing row and stitch position with options to apply to entire column or row

In Marker Mode, tap a chart cell to see its exact position and quick options. "Apply to entire column" marks that stitch on every row; "Apply to entire row" marks every stitch in a row. Add cells to any existing marker group or create a new one on the spot.
