Define chart regions on your PDF and link them to row counters
Before the Smart Pattern Reader can track your progress through a chart, it needs to know where the chart is on the page and how many rows it has. The Setup section walks you through defining these regions and linking them to counters. Once set up, advancing your counter highlights the current row on the chart.
In Smart or Full mode, expand the Knitting Setup section in the sidebar. You'll see a Lock/Edit toggle and any charts you've already defined. The lock prevents accidental changes while you knit — unlock it when you need to add or edit charts.
Unlock the setup and tap "Add Chart". Navigate to the PDF page with your chart, pinch to zoom in for precision, then draw a rectangle around the chart area.
Set the row count, stitch count, reading direction, and knitting type (flat or in the round). The app uses these to highlight the correct row and reading direction as you advance your counter.
Once you confirm, the app creates a row counter linked to this chart. When you advance the counter in the Row Tracking section, the highlighted row on the chart moves with it — you always see which row you should be knitting.
With setup complete, the chart is live. The current row highlights in yellow so you always know where you are. Lock the setup to prevent accidental changes, and you're ready to knit. Shaping guides and stitch markers also become available once setup is done.
