46Is this pattern worth making?

Craft Value is a beta feature and is off by default - nothing described in this guide appears until you switch it on. Open Settings → Appearance, scroll to the beta section, and enable Top Patterns by Craft Value. This one toggle activates everything: the grade card on pattern pages, the ranked lists in Discover, and designer profiles.

Open any pattern and switch to the Stats tab. The Craft Value card shows the pattern's grade and, more importantly, why it earns it: how the community rated the pattern, combined with how much they make, favourite, and queue it. A percentile line tells you how the pattern compares with the rest of the index.

Two honest edge cases: if a pattern has no Ravelry star ratings, it is graded on engagement alone and the card says so. And if nobody has rated, made, favourited, or queued a pattern yet, there is simply no grade - Craft Value never invents a verdict without evidence.

Next to the grade you'll find context chips - real properties of the pattern such as its complexity, whether it's free or paid, and its community proof (how many crafters have actually made it). These deliberately do not move the grade up or down. They exist so you can judge the grade in context: a B on a beginner dishcloth and a B on an intricate colorwork sweater mean different things for your next cast-on.

With the beta enabled, the Discover tab gains a Top Craft Value list - patterns ranked globally by their grade. It's a different lens than "most popular right now": a quietly excellent pattern with outstanding community evidence ranks above a merely hyped one.

The list has its own sort - Craft Value, Most Popular, Most Projects, Most Queued, Rating, Publication Date and Name - and takes the same advanced filters as pattern search, so you can ask for the best-graded free sweater patterns at your gauge. Craft Value sorting lives here, on this list: ordinary pattern search keeps its own sorts.

Craft Value extends to designers. The Top Designers list in Discover ranks designers by the aggregate Craft Value of their patterns, with filters for grade, trend, archetype, and category. On any designer's page, the Craft Value profile card shows their grade spread, a Craft Value over time timeline, and an evidence-based archetype. If a designer isn't in the index yet, you can evaluate their patterns right from their page to add them.
