Meters or yards, grams or ounces

The Units Converter swaps between meters and yards, centimeters and inches, and grams and ounces. Those are the three every pattern asks for sooner or later. Type a number on either side and the other side changes as you type.

Same yarn, different label. European patterns give the length in meters, American ones in yards. A 100 g skein of "400 m" and one of "437 yds" hold the same amount of yarn.

How many skeins of the other yarn?

Yarn Substitution answers the old question. The pattern wants 8 skeins of yarn X, so how many skeins of yarn Y do you need? Type in the original yarn's skein count and length per skein, then your substitute's length per skein. It works from the total length of yarn rather than the weight, divides that by the length of one substitute skein, and rounds up.

Length is the honest measure. Two 50 g skeins can hold very different lengths, depending on the fiber and the spin. Compare lengths, then check the gauge matches too.
