17I want to message other crafters

Tap Messages on the Home screen. Your inbox lists every conversation, with the unread ones marked. The tabs at the top switch between Inbox, Sent and Archived.

The search bar finds a conversation by the name of the person you were writing to. Anything you have not read stands out, so a new reply is easy to spot.

Tap a message to open the whole thread. The messages sit in the order they were sent, so you can follow the conversation from one end to the other. A reply can quote an earlier message, so the other person knows which bit you mean.

From inside a thread you can archive the conversation to keep your inbox clear, mark it as unread to come back to it, or delete single messages.

Type at the bottom of the conversation and send. Your message shows up in the thread straight away.

New conversations start from the person, not from the inbox. Open their profile, from People Search, from your friends list, or by tapping their name on a project or pattern, and tap Send a message. The composer is the same editor the forums use, so you can format the text and drop in projects, patterns, yarns, stash entries and photos.

The composer is the same editor as the forums: markdown formatting, an emoji picker, and buttons that drop in one of your projects, a pattern, a yarn, a stash entry, a person or a photo. Answering "which yarn did you use?" is two taps instead of a paragraph.

A reply can quote the message you are answering. In a conversation that has been running for weeks, that is worth doing.

Swipe a conversation to archive it, bring it back, mark it unread, or delete it. The same actions sit on each message inside a conversation. The folder selector switches between Inbox, Sent and Archived.
