Patterns on the big screen, your notebook, and a slideshow for knit night
Sign in on the television. Choose Sign In Here Instead and do the whole Ravelry login on the Apple TV. Nothing else is needed - and because the television is then signed in as you, it turns up in your device list by itself.
Or pair from your phone. The television shows a 6-digit code; on your phone go to Tools → Devices → Pair Device, choose Apple TV, type the code, and confirm with Ravelry. Handy if typing a password with the remote is not your idea of an evening.
The Home tab opens with a full-screen hero and then the rails: Hot Right Now, New Patterns, Free & Popular, Random Patterns, your Favorited Patterns, and themed ones - Hats, Mitts & More, Aran & Cables, Lace, Socks, Sweaters, Baby Knits, Textured Stitches. Your pinned searches are there too.
Photographs are laid out to their own proportions rather than cropped into a grid, so a long shawl looks like a long shawl. The Notebook tab is your own: projects in progress, recently finished, favorites, queue, bundles, yarn stash and library.
Long-press a card, or press play on the hero, and the television runs a fullscreen slideshow: photographs drifting slowly, optional background music (an instrumental playlist or the knitting-songs one), the pattern's notes if you want them, and a QR code anyone in the room can scan to open the pattern on their own phone.
The television's own settings tab is a summary, not a control panel. Your theme, surface style, time per item, time per photo, music, language and overlays are all set in the app on your phone under Appearance, and the television follows them - a change reaches it within about half a minute.
That includes the language: the Apple TV speaks all 26 languages and uses whichever one your phone is set to. It also draws the app's own craft icons and surfaces, so it looks like the Stash2Go you use rather than a different product.
