Where Stash2Go uses OpenAI
Every feature, what it sends, and its default setting
A few features in Stash2Go send data to OpenAI. This page lists all of them, what each one sends, and whether it is on or off when you install the app. The list is checked against the app's code.
In short: they are all off until you turn them on. There is one exception, and it is listed below too.
Three rules
Off until you turn it on. Every one of these features starts off. Each has its own switch, so turning on the yarn scanner turns on nothing else. An app update never turns one on for you.
Off means nothing is sent. A feature that is off sends nothing, not even in the background. Nothing is collected quietly for later.
Nothing is written in your name. Text from a model is never saved to your Ravelry projects, notes, stash or forum posts on its own. You read it first and decide whether to use it.
Every feature that sends data to OpenAI
You find the switches in the app under Settings, Assisted Features. The same list is there, with the same settings.

Nothing about you. A few times a day the server groups public Ravelry forum topic titles and gives each group a name. Everyone sees the same result | On |
The one exception
The Discover screen has a card that shows what the Ravelry forums are talking about. A few times a day, the server reads the public topic titles, puts similar ones together, and gives each group a short name in your language. An OpenAI model does that grouping. It runs once for everyone and uses public titles only. Your account, your projects and your searches are not part of it.
This is the only item on this page without its own switch. If you would like one, send a message with the feedback button and it gets added.
What is never sent to OpenAI
- Your Ravelry password or login. These go to Ravelry and nowhere else. Bobbin never gets them
- Your stash and projects, unless you use one of the two features that say so above: the footprint summary, and Bobbin when your question is about them
- Your photos, except the one photo you hand to the scanner
- Your messages, forum drafts and private notes
Where the data goes
When one of these features is on and you use it, the request goes from the app to the Stash2Go server, then to OpenAI, and the answer comes back the same way. Your device never talks to OpenAI directly. That is what makes the list above complete. The privacy policies for each platform name OpenAI and describe each feature, and they are linked from the support page.
The chat bubble on this website is the same assistant, answering questions about the app. It knows only what you type into it.

Press the feedback button in the app (Settings, then Send Feedback) to send a message. It goes straight to the developer, with your app version attached. You can also write to contact@stash2go.com or post in the Stash2Go group on Ravelry. If one of these features gives you a wrong answer, or if one seems to run that you never turned on, please say so.
